I teach at a wonderful middle school that has been recognized four times as a "school to watch." This is very remarkable since we live in a high-poverty area, and many of our students have difficulty finding support for musical enrichment outside of our classroom.
My students thrive in a student-centered learning environment where they can discover and learn by using our classroom tools and technology.
We have very little room in our classroom budget for anything but basic music needs and instrument repairs.
My Project
We are adding an entire grade to our Middle School! Our 6-8 school is becoming a 5-8 school. Because of this we are adding teachers and classes to our building. We are also taking this time of change to expand our curriculum and to give our current and new students more opportunities.
Starting this school year, our stage will be our new music classroom.
We will move from a 2 music teacher school to a 3 music teacher school, but with only 2 designated music classrooms. We need a new rug, white/cork board, and a storage cart to help make this space into a useable teaching and learning space!
