This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Dancing, singing, and playing instruments is seen throughout music classrooms in America...except ours! Right now we don't have enough instruments for a class of 25!
We are an low-socioeconomic urban K-8 school that LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to drum on anything!
You can catch us singing and making percussion instruments out of the walls, floors, and tables any day. We have not had music at our school for several years, and the kids are EXTREMELY excited to start making some music.
My Project
Many of our students have never drummed on a drum before, seen a tambourine without it being in a picture or on TV, or experienced music by playing instruments. The rhythm instruments requested will be used in a variety of music making activities whether it's keeping the beat, improvising different sounds for characters, and playing musical compositions.
Music is extremely important to the development of children.
Playing instruments brings the kinesthetic, aural, and visual learners all on the same playing field. Instruments teach children how to handle objects with respect, and to be disciplined when performing. This donation will jump start our music program to be making music for a LONG, LONG time.
