The best part about our school is how diverse the population is. We have 4000 students, with roughly equal representation of ethnicities! It is a Title I school: most of our students are below the federal poverty line.
The students make friends from everywhere in Brooklyn and throughout NYC.
It's a joyful place to work. We have supportive administration, lots of clubs (teachers volunteer to lead them). We just need a little more money to make things excellent!
In marine science we study the biological and physical aspects of the ocean realm. Of course, one of the main thing we study are the properties of seawater.
Seawater has many dissolved ions.
Prior to this lab, students learn about osmosis and diffusion, and discover how a saltwater creature processes saltwater and compare this to their own physiology!
In this lab the students learn to use three important tools of the scientist, graduated cylinders, balances, and hydrometers. They also learn to convert calculate mass and volume based on density of different materials. And of course, they get to have fun and get their hands a little dirty!
