My Students
My school is a low income school where students range from homeless to middle class. For most, they come from loving homes with dedicated guardians, and for others, school is their escape from home. For a lot of my students, eating at school is their only chance of getting food. My students are resilient. Regardless of their background and circumstances, I help my students to deal with the hand they are dealt by supporting and nurturing them as teachers should.
My Project
These books will help my students improve literacy fluency by creating sound cues to certain words in the stories through the use of instruments and body movements. For example, in the book "Click Clack Moo!" the cowbells will be played every time the word 'moo' is read. As the students fluency increases, more sound cues will be added to stories to make reading more challenging and fun. Once they are comfortable, opportunities will be given for students to read books to the class thus increasing their self confidence in reading and comprehension. My goal is to help my students love to read!
