My students need more handbells in order to make melodic music. My students have plenty non-pitched percussion instruments but are in need of instruments that can be played melodically.

My Students
My students live in Charlotte, NC and attend public school in CMS. They are in grades Pre-K-Fifth. My elementary school is one of the most diverse schools in the nation. The diversity at this school makes it a great place to work. I use music as a tool to teach empathy, the value of practice and hard work, teamwork, literacy, and mostly - the value and joy of music!
I am a third-year teacher and am continually assessing the best way to teach my students, and the best environment to do so in.
My Project
Handbells will allow my students to explore melodic elements of music through literacy and performance. Right now, students have access to non-pitched percussion, but they can't play actual notes on those instruments. Handbells are an efficient and exciting way for students to learn how to read music better. These handbells will be utilized in all of my classes, grades Pre-K through 5th, and will be used by over 750 students at the school on a weekly basis. These particular handbells are color-coded which will help out younger students as well as students who have learning disabilities, appealing to students of all ages and levels.
