My school is a Title I school where every child is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. We are a kindergarten-only building. Seventy percent of our building's students have not attended a preschool or daycare program prior to starting kindergarten. A lot of our students live with grandparents. Many of our students live in multifamily homes.
My students are eager learners!
They are excited about school and all that we have to offer them. They are little, just five and six years old, but the daily cognitive and social demands are higher than ever! I want to give my students every opportunity to succeed, I just need the right "tools"!
My Project
Kindergarten has changed so much since I walked into my first classroom 18 years ago. The academic expectations are at an all-time high and sadly, as expectations increase, the amount of interactive, fun manipulatives and games are decreasing. Many classrooms rely on using worksheets to teach early math skills such as counting.
My students need fun manipulatives like dinosaurs, bears, and trucks to practice early number skills.
These manipulatives will keep students engaged while practicing number recognition, counting and patterning skills. The games will provide my students with an exciting way to practice their number skills during our daily math center time. Each game will ask students to practice number recognition and one to one counting. Early numeracy skills will build a strong foundation for future math skills.
