Life in the regular education setting can be difficult for a child with a specific learning disability. These children are expected to perform to the standards as their peers with minimal support in science and social studies. My students need your help to provide center based activities!
My Title One school has very limited resources.
We are also in a very rural area which does not provide many learning opportunities for my students. I am a special education instructor who provides instruction to children with specific learning disabilities. My students are in grades Kindergarten through 3rd. My students have limited vocabulary understanding and minimal exposure to social studies and science concepts outside of school. These children need visual examples, vocabulary development, and real world examples of Science and Social Studies concepts in order to be successful.
My Project
My students need differentiated learning centers such as rocks and soil, plants, and animal activity tubs to help access grade level material. Setting up science and social studies centers would get my students excited about what they are learning! They would be able to see and touch items that correspond with our lessons. I would be able to set up a teacher directed learning center in the regular education setting to provide on level learning in a fun, hands on way. These centers will allow a deeper understanding of grade level concepts, while reducing frustration levels.
My project is important in that it addresses individual student needs through teacher directed lessons with hands on activities, exploration, and vocabulary development.
It will enable my students to be more successful in the regular education setting, develop cooperating peer relationships, and learn to love Science and Social Studies!
