This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students with Autism Spectrum Disorder need educational and classroom materials such as engaging and colorful hands-on activities to give them access to fun learning opportunities. These materials will help to improve their early math literacy, sensory and cognitive skills.
Many of my students are non-verbal individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
They range from ages 3 to 4 years. They learn best by using visuals and hands-on activities. My favorite thing about my students is that they love learning. However, many of them have difficulty attending to activities and these educational activities will provide another way to engage them in learning.
Our school is located in a low-income neighborhood in Baltimore, MD. Despite the many challenges they face, I like to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
These materials will address my students' sensory needs and provide opportunities for hands-on learning and peer-to-peer interaction. The counting materials will give them opportunities to practice their number sense and visual perceptual skills. The building blocks will give the children opportunities to be creative and let their imagination lead them in building various structures. The soft seats will be helpful to address my students sensory needs and reduce the fidgety behaviors when we are learning during circle time and other times that they choose to sit on the floor. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated by my students and I.
