My students are in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. They are young and energetic. They enjoy play-based learning, hands-on activities and anything to do with Pete the Cat. They love, love, love to move! In fact, most of them learn best through movement. They spend part of their day in my special education classroom and the rest of the day in class with their peers. In my room, I strive to provide my young learners with engaging instruction in a comfortable, fun environment. I want them to enjoy learning, feel good about themselves, and reach their full academic potential.
My Project
In my classroom I strive to provide my students with engaging activities to increase their motivation and promote active learning. The materials I've requested will help me do just that. Hands-on activities, manipulatives, and games make learning engaging and fun for my students. The more students are engaged, the more they learn.
The subtraction games will allow my first and second graders to practice a tricky skill while interacting with their peers and developing their social skills.
The various number and letter manipulatives will help my kindergartners learn important readiness skills needed to build reading and math skills in the future. The sensory materials, beads, playdough tools, and therapy putty are versatile materials that all students will use for a variety of reading and math activities while developing their fine motor skills. Finally, I plan to incorporate the Legos into writing, math, and choice time. They are sure to be a favorite among my students!
