Help me give my students a summer of fun and STEM learning. Summer is a great opportunity to complete projects with my students. We want to make Stopmotion movies this summer using the Stopmotion Explosion kit.
There are few moments as gratifying to a teacher as seeing a whole class of students with autism independently engaged in a learning task. As the technology teacher of students with moderate to severe autism in a high-need school in Astoria, Queens. I am delighted to provide tools and activities that achieve these moments.
My wonderful students have varying needs and levels of ability, many have communication, social and language challenges but they all engage very well with technology.
The majority of my students face speech, fine motor, and gross motor difficulties as well as coming from a low economic background. The primary mission of our school is to help our students achieve maximum independence to lead fulfilling lives focusing on their talents rather than their disabilities. Technology can even the playing field and help my students towards this goal.
My Project
My students with autism have a twelve month school year. The summer session is a great time to complete longer projects. This year I would like to support my students to make their own stop motion movies.
We will learn all the techniques required to make our own stop motion movies.
We will make our own characters out of Lego and clay. We will learn how to storyboard and create our own digital stories. We will learn about green screens and special effects.
My students struggle with language and communication and digital story-telling through stop motion is a great way to help them express themselves.
