Let's Make a Flexible Classroom! Seating & Activities - Oh My!
My students need flexible seating so they can learn in the most comfortable environment that suits them! My students also need hands on activities to continue mastering our curriculum!
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom every single day. My class is a mixed ability classroom. I have special education students and gifted and talented learners, as well as 10 high achieving math students who push into my classroom daily for enrichment. Despite the many challenges they face, my students are so full of life and it is my goal to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. My classroom is in desperate need of materials for all curriculum areas because our school is lacking in resources. I would like to provide my students with hands on opportunities to learn in all subject areas.
My Project
My project consists of various types of flexible seating. Bean bag chairs, wobble chairs, floor seats, and a large classroom carpet for my students to utilize during instructional times.
I think it is important to not only differentiate the curriculum for each child's needs, but also their learning environment.
Our Class project also includes science inquiry activities so my students can have the opportunity to have hands on discovery time with difficult topics such as bacteria and cells. I have also included math and reading activities for my students to use for topics that we are struggling in and could utilize a more interactive approach to master the skills.
