I teach first grade at a rural school in South Carolina. My students come to school so excited to learn! First grade is a big year because students are learning how to read. My students love when I read stories to them and also love reading on their own and to their classmates.
My students love when I tell them I have a new book to read or new books to add to our classroom library!
They immediately get excited and are engaged the whole time I am reading a new book. This engagement extends to them being able to comprehend what they are hearing me read or what they are reading on their own.
My Project
My students need a comfortable listening center to enjoy listening to stories! The Comfy Couch Listening Center will help my students relax and get comfortable so they can focus on listening. There is a wooden console in the middle where I will put the All-in-one CD player, headphones, and the books with CDs. Students will also have new headphones to use while at the center.
Children love listening to stories and CDs that come with a copy of the book are helpful because students can follow along as the book is being read to them.
They can see the words on the page and learn how to read with expression. Two students will be able to use this center at a time and will be able to talk about the story with their partner afterwards.
