Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Can we listen to music while we work?" My students enjoy listening to music while they work on their math in the computer labs on the laptops here at school. But without headphones, it gets very noisy!
I teach 5th grade at a Title I school.
I have been teaching the same grade level for many years now and I enjoy this age group. My students are always enthusiastic about using the computers here at school since about only half of my students either have computers in their homes or have access to the Internet. My students and their parents almost all speak English as a second language as well. Most of the time, I need to have a translator to communicate with the parents since I do not not speak their home language.
My Project
Each year, we use the computer lab twice a week and the students use headphones while listening to some of the programs they use. Over time, I have noticed that the headphones break, crack or lose the foam ear pieces. It would be great to have a new set of headphones on hand as well as some replacements for the coming year. Just our grade level alone has 140 students on it, so the headphones are used daily (and need to be replaced often!) As technology improves, we need to update our laptops by ordering some new Chromebook laptops to replace others in the computer lab that have become damaged over the years with so much use! With the help of Chevron and their Fuel Your School funding, we hope to replace these much used technology items!
Each and every week, headphones and laptops are used by many students here at school, not just my class.
The funding from Chevron would help to provide necessary technology items so the students can easily hear their computer programs they use each week in the computer lab and be able to easily access the Internet with new and improved laptop computers. We hope that Chevron will consider funding our project this year and thank you for checking out our project!
