My school is a Title I school with 78% of the students receiving free or reduced cost lunch. Many of the families in our school are very transient and the students move from school to school. Language barriers are another hurdle my students have to overcome. My students have not had life experiences that build background knowledge for learning.
Kindergarten is an essential part of their early learning development.
I strive to give them as many experiences and practice putting their learning into words. They need to learn social skills, problem solving and academic skills through developmentally appropriate learning situations.
Many of the students in my classroom have EC or ESL backgrounds and require extra interventions to help them achieve success in the mainstream classroom.
My Project
Children learn best through discovery and play! A good kindergarten classroom has to be hands-on and most of all FUN! A child's natural curiosity draws them to the glow of a light table and the colorful tools on it!
Light table tools can be used for everything from open-ended play experiences to arts and crafts, to teaching academic concepts, and more!
The materials that this project includes will help to build a center that will encourage my students to work on literacy, math, science, and fine motor skills with endless possibilities!
Haven't you ever wondered what your bones looked like? Wouldn't it be neat to build a glowing castle? Instead of using paper and pencil to write words would you rather match glowing letters to the word and then write it on a glowing paper? My kinder kids would love to dive into learning like this! These tools will be giving my students a sensory experience as they learn which increases engagement and learning!
