“Adventures in Year Round Learning” is the motto at our school. Why? Because it runs on a modified calendar, starting earlier, going later and offering a three week break during November and March, compared to a traditional calendar. Our mission statement, “Every student learning everyday.” We work to ensure all students are reached and progress is made for all students. Our teachers look at each individual student's needs and address those needs through focus groups. Through these focus groups, our students consistently score in the 85th% for proficiency on State-Wide Assessments. With that our school operates on approximately 32% Free and Reduced Lunch and 10% receive services through special education.
My classroom consists of approximately 24 students ranging from grades Kindergarten through 5th grade with Special Needs.
My class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, as well as, medically fragile.
My Project
What a better way to reward our students for a job well done is through the use of a small prize box and who doesn't love Pokemon and Unicorns! When technology time is completed, a great way to learn is by file folder games, some come pre-made such as social skill games, while others need to be put together with the use of velcro.
Our classroom started using iPad's for learning time this year, now let's get our technology center up and charging in a professional manner.
Two charging docks will assist in having our new iPad's charging all at one time in a central location. Several of the apps the students use require headphones along with a microphone, new headphones will allow us to use these apps to their fullest. A great way to help a student stay focused during learning is through the use of a weighted lap pad.
