This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My kindergarteners come from a low socioeconomic background. Even though this is on their back, they are the most loving and hard working 5 and 6-year-olds. Being a teacher, I don’t have much to give financially, and I want my students to grow and thrive as much as they can. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom.
These students come from tough situations and despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
My Project
Many of my Kindergarten students are visual learners. They have an easier time grasping mathematical concepts if they can see them demonstrated in a visually compelling way.
We will use LEGO bricks to count, measure, and create patterns during math time.
Students will be able to stack and count the colorful blocks, use them to measure things around the room, and come up with their very own patterns! Students can also choose LEGOs as a center during creative play time.
My goal is to make learning as fun as possible for my students. Using LEGOs in our classroom can help teach concepts that students might otherwise find tedious, in a way that doesn’t feel like work to them!
