My students from Baltimore Maryland have just recently moved into their new 21st-century building. Although this was a wonderful gift to receive after years of Covid shutdowns, it comes with frustrations and struggles due to having missed so much in-person learning and human interaction. I have heard many times from these 29 wonderful kids how bored and uninterested they are in some of the required activities and lessons. They sincerely want to learn and do well. They simply need assistance in overcoming new dynamics that they have no control over.
Although I can't give them the free time that they seek, I can make their time in class fun, interesting, and, productive.
This project will help to reignite the student's interest in learning by giving them a larger variety of activities to engage with.
Center/group time happens almost daily in our classroom for reading and math. During his time, twice per day, my scholars will visit their designated center location. While in these centers, students are actively engaged in skills that push them closer towards closing their individual learning gaps. This task has become increasingly difficult for them as a result of Covid shutdowns. Not only are students working to improve their academic skills, they are also learning to work together with friends again and working to increase their perseverance and engagement. Due to the presence of these unusual new dynamics, I have found it necessary to vary the center activities more often than in the past.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
With these new games and flashcards, students will be able to work together while engaging with a larger variety of activities resulting in increased time on task and interest in academic skills.
