Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work at a Title 1 school where the majority of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have been a Speech-Language Pathologist at an elementary school for just over 18 years! I love my students. Many of them are non-verbal and some of them have developmental disabilities which prevent them from learning how to talk.

The majority of the students on my caseload come from a poor neighborhood.

They all benefit from the services of Medical Assistance. Some of the students at my school are in special programs because of their multiple disabilities. We even have half day programs to enrich three and four year olds who do not get enough language exposure in their complicated home environments.

My Project

My students are very young. Many of them are coming to school for the very first time. Some of them need therapy to help them with their speaking and listening. Having a multitude of fun, educational toys will allow them to gain the experience that they need to expand their vocabulary.

I use a lot of picture symbols with the children at my school.

I will benefit from having laminating sheets along with card stock to make materials that will be hands on and durable.

I put a lot of time and thought into planning exciting and memorable language rich experiences for my students. Won't you please assist me in making everyday special for them?
