Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is a family that consists of thirty-eight eager-to-learn kindergarten students in a Title I school in Houston, Texas where all of the students receive free lunch.
The majority of my students come from single-parent households where they struggle to make ends meet, but despite their difficulties, they always come into our classroom with smiles, eager to learn.
I want to provide my students with unique learning experiences in and out of our classroom that they can carry through life.
Many of my students and their families were affected by hurricane Harvey and I am trying to make them feel welcomed and secure in my classroom. I also want them to feel like their world is going back to normal after such a tragic event.
My Project
My students eat lunch very early in the morning. Our lunch is scheduled at 10:27, and therefore students feel hungry throughout the day. I want to be able to provide my students a snack to eat during our math workstations and to take home. The snacks on this project such as the cheese crackers, goldfish crackers, pop tarts and fruit snacks will provide my students the opportunity to eat a snack as they are working.
I believe that a student can’t concentrate if they feel hunger and therefore I want to be able to eliminate that barrier.
The dry erase markers and erasers are going to be used every day by the students to solve the number of the day, and representing a number in different ways. The heavy-duty paper trays will provide my students the opportunity to save their unfinished work for the next day to continue working.
