My Students
My extraordinary students of ages 3-5 are all full of joy and imagination. While mixed with diverse interests, abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and achievement goals; they receive intensive instruction at a Public School's Exceptional Student Education Program due to their Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Developmental Disability (DD).
In this Language-Enriched Program, I focus on their abilities and not their disabilty; however, due to their disability, my students have significant social, behavioral, and communication challenges.
Without the ability to effectively communicate (ie. share their thoughts, requests their wants and needs, exchange information, develop social relationships, asks questions, and demonstrate their comprehension skills), my students may exhibit their frustrations through vocal outbursts and other inappropriate behaviors. Nonetheless, my students continues to crave for knowledge and are eager to learn new concepts and it is essential that I help them they reach their maximum potential.
My Project
The suggested materials will help my exceptional students learn language and communicate effectively by increasing their vocabulary, articulation, and fluency.
By donating to our project, you will not only help their communication skills, but you will also impact their listening comprehension skills and social skills.
Items such as the Yes/No sound button will allow my students who are non-verbal to answer simple yes/no questions with the touch of a button. Also, the language cards will give the students a visual to nouns that can help with articulation and extending sentences. The motion bubbler will provide sensory input for when my students need a break and the visual and auditory timer will help my students understand the meaning of "all done" or "finished."
I look forward to adding these materials to our classroom as I am confident it will help my students meet their individual goals.
