Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I want my students to experience the world...because that is what they mean to me. I am teacher of students in a Title I district where nearly 85% of the student body lives below the poverty level. This year, I have the pleasure of being the sole adviser of the STEM Club. The students in my in my club face adversity every day. While in my care, I have created an environment where they feel safe, are encouraged, and will be challenged to be their best self. Their tenacity and determination are a strength that I see growing in them every day. The projects gives them a chance to allow their minds to search for answers and be creative in ways they may have never thought possible.
My students have so much to offer the world and this is just the beginning of their journey to becoming global citizens.
I want to fuel my students hunger in STEM because it incorporates all of the finest studies to lead my students where they need to go. Science, technology, engineering, and math are a set of skills they will be able to take with them into any job market.
My Project
My students will be learning about the life cycle and what better way than to actually witness the transformation of life. We have discussed several different life cycles, and my students voted for the butterflies. This science kit will be the catalyst that launches my students love for life science. They will be able to see each stage of the butterfly as they make observations every day. This will be a far cry better than watching a film or documentary on butterflies. They will have a hands on experience that they will be able to remember forever.
My students' love of science will open up a whole new world they did not know existed.
It is my job to make sure they not only know about that world, but also to make sure they thrive in it.
