Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of 28 first grade students who are at varying levels and abilities. Each day, they come to school motivated and excited to learn. Our school population consists of most students receiving free or reduced lunch, since we are a high poverty school. School is a happy place for them where they feel safe and comfortable. I would love to provide books, games and manipulatives to teach students about the importance of finance since it is a part of everyday life.
My Project
My students need coin stamps, magnets, manipulatives and books to develop an understanding of financial literacy. Finance is a part of everyday life and I would like students to learn how to identify coins as well as count a set of coins. Through the use of literature students will be able to make text to self and text to world connections in relation to financial literacy. Students need to recognize the importance of money, how to identify and count coins since this is an important life skill. Whether students are in the cafeteria buying snack or at the grocery store, financial literacy is all around us.
