My Students
My 20 first grade students live in rural Maine. 98% of our total school population gets free or reduced-price lunch, so having extras in the classroom is not always possible. My bright students are eager to learn and very capable of great things with the right resources.
Maintaining bright, interactive, and appropriate posters, learning games, and decorations in and around the classroom to keep the learning fun is an important step in keeping my students engaged in the lessons taking place around them.
My Project
Having a laminator in the classroom will add a more positive time- management piece to my busy day. I will be able to quickly and effectively laminate classroom supplies, game pieces, posters, and many other items used in our every day learning without having to wait for the school laminator to heat for 30 minutes first, as well as to avoid the down times when the school laminator is broken or waiting for an empty lamination roll to be replaced.
Having classroom pieces laminated ensures the students can easily manipulate game pieces and name tags without the items becoming torn, dirty, or damaged, and meaning I can concentrate on other important tasks rather than having to recreate ruined items.
The opportunity to use hands-on materials is an important component to ensuring learners have the opportunity to experience learning through manipulatives as well as through the traditional learning routes.
