Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My smiling preschool students come in to school every day ready to embark on new learning adventures. They are curious, adventurous and enthusiastic.
My classroom is an integrated program for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and for typically developing peers, so students with ASD benefit from their typically developing peer role models, and typically developing students learn tolerance, acceptance and including everyone at an early age.
Our goal is for all students to be ready to be fully included when they attend kindergarten.
All students have different learning styles. To provide opportunities for everyone to learn, a multi-sensory approach is crucial.
Ninety percent of our students are considered high needs--English Language Learners and/or students with disabilities, so building foundation skills this year is so important. Every day and every moment is a new opportunity for teaching and learning.
My Project
We all learn differently. My preschool students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their typically developing peers need multi-sensory learning materials to channel programming towards their strengths. These multi-sensory light table accessories and interactive games will help students to acquire and retain important new skills. They will be used during our important center time work.
Multi-sensory activities are an important component of inclusive classrooms, and in our class will allow for increased opportunities for all students to access learning.
During Center Time activities, these materials will be made available for students. Teachers and assistants will use small group instruction during the center time period to shape tasks and facilitate learning.
