Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a great group of positive, hardworking first-grade students how to read. After a full year of distance learning, the students are far below grade level and working hard to catch up.

Due to the pandemic, teaching them how to read the way I've always had is not working as well.

Learning some different strategies that follow the Science of Reading will not only help these students catch up but thrive.

My Project

Phonemic awareness is one of the most important stepping stones to teaching young kids to learn to read. These students spent their kindergarten year online and I need as many tools in my tool belt I can get. Learning science-based strategies will be integral to helping these students catch up.

The My Heggerty Support has professional development videos to help me learn and grow as a reading teacher.

The Curriculum Guide has targeted intervention instruction to help the students who need extra support. These lessons can be used for both whole group instruction and also small group reading intervention.
