My students walk into our classroom every day excited for the new challenges that await them that day. Each day, they are reminded that they were selected to be in my class because I asked for the best students in the school and that's exactly what I got. I let them know that they can do anything if they believe in themselves as much as I believe in them.
I teach at a Title I school in where more than half of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Many of their families struggle just to make ends meet. You would never know it from the passion and enthusiasm they show each morning when they come to our classroom. They want to be here because they know that if they give their best, they can achieve anything in life.
My Project
Teaching at a school with a high level of poverty has it's challenges. Chief among those challenges is good hygiene. Many of my students can't afford many of life's most basic supplies, and that includes their oral and dental hygiene.
To be able to provide a child with something as simple as a tooth brush or some dental floss can be a huge difference in their life.
For my students to have the opportunity to not only learn about good hygiene, but to also be given supplies that can then be used to promote that good hygiene is amazing. I've done this for my students in the past and it's a huge motivator for them to engage in my hygiene lessons and to follow up with good practices at home.
