Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my school come from very diverse backgrounds. We are a rural bedroom community outside of Denver, Colorado. We have the typical small town attitude, and everyone seems to know everybody. Our school has a population of about 450 students from many backgrounds. We are a Title I school so many of our students come from poverty. Living in a small community means that many of the activities revolve around the school. My students spend many hours at our school since we are on a 4 day school week, so they need to have easy access to water all day and the ability to take water with them.

My Project

The water fountain in our gym doesn't work well. It is continuously getting stuck and floods the gym floor. Students are in need of a sanitary water station where germs won't collect and students have an opportunity to fill a bottle when they leave. This would be the only fountain of this style in the building.

Being active requires being hydrated, and kids get discouraged from participating hard when the fountain doesn't work.

I encourage students to bring reusable water bottles to move away from disposable bottles, and by having a place to refill these bottles would encourage conservation efforts.
