Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students brighten my day from the moment they walk into our classroom until the second they leave. As my students enter the classroom each morning, I am greeted with smiles, stories, questions, and my very favorite "Mrs. W, how are you doing over there?" My students have a wide range of disorders that affect the way that they process, understand and communicate information. My classroom consists of students that are in the 4th, 5th and 6th grade.
My students all have different abilities that require different methods of instruction and materials to help them learn to the best of their ability.
My students come to school each day knowing that more than their educational needs will be met. Our school provides each student with free breakfast, a healthy snack at recess and free lunch. Our school also has social and emotional supports for our students if they are needed.
My Project
This listening center will provide my students with access to stories from all genres of literature without becoming frustrated because they are not reading a grade level. My students will be able to listen to stories as they build skills they can use as they are reading independently. They will be able to focus on tracking words, hearing good reading pace and speed and being exposed to new words.
This listening center will provide my students opportunities to listen to stories that that they are not able to read independently.
My students will utilize this listen center during our ELA center rotations. The variety of books will provide my students access to stories that will supplement and enhance our curriculum as well as stories that they have a personal interest in.
