Our school is fortunate to have a piano lab to enhance our general music classes. Many of the students we service in our general music classes do not participate in our band, chorus, or strings programs. So, this is the one time that some of our students have the opportunity for hands-on learning on an instrument. And, since evidence suggests that learning an instrument is exercise for your brain and can improve your brain power, I feel it is imperative to continue to offer this opportunity to our students.
We have had parents reach out to offer their appreciation and thanks for introducing their child to the piano.
Some of those students have gone on and are taking private piano lessons. Whenever parents share these stories, it provides more evidence to the importance and success of our piano lab.
My Project
Our current piano lab is approximately 10 years old and is showing its age. We currently have 19 pianos in our lab and our class sizes range from 18-25 students. At times, we do not have enough keyboards to service all of our students. I am asking for two Yamaha Keyboards with headphones. The completion of this project is a step forward that will allow all of our students to play on their own individual piano at the same time.
These Keyboards will replace broken equipment and continue the process of expanding and updating our piano lab.
We are hopeful that the generous donors of DonorsChoose.org will help make this purchase happen for general music students our middle school.
