Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It is very difficult to play softball at a competitive level without league regulated softballs.
Our school is home to students of extreme poverty.
95% of our students get free lunch and more than 90% of them live below the poverty line. We are in the poorest Congressional District in the nation. Our students need something to build their confidence in and outside of school. And for girls, this is very difficult. They have two options (softball or varsity basketball) to be competitive, learn teamwork, and learn how to have a sense of pride and enthusiasm in something they do.
My Project
Our students have very little options for extracurricular activities due to recent and on-going budget cuts. Out of four schools in our building, our students have the option to play basketball or baseball. Other than that, there are no options for our students to get in shape, learn healthy lifestyles, learn and practice respect, earn a sense of pride and learn to be part of a team. With adequate practice and game equipment, we are one step closer to improving ourselves and our community.
Despite all of the struggles our students have to go through on a regular basis, our softball team has went to play-offs for the last five years and even won some championships.
We want to push our girls to the next level by providing top of the line equipment. Now, college scouts attend our games regularly. My students need 5 dozen league regulated softballs. This donation will not only help our students right now, but also in the future. College scholarships are just around the corner. Help us get there!!!
