Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom really look forward to math time and are excited to begin our day with a math warm-up.
My students love to use manipulatives during Math Workshop as it enables them to "see" the math concepts come to life.
Our school community is located in a high poverty area and school is a safe haven for my students. The students in my classroom face many challenges on a daily basis but they enter the classroom with an enthusiasm for learning every day.
My Project
My students will be able to better visualize basic number concepts that are introduced and practiced in First Grade. These materials will give students opportunities to move from concrete learning to drawing and then writing about mathematics lessons. Students will have so much fun practicing on the Dry Erase Boards that have a Hundreds Chart on them they may not even realize how many skills they are acquiring. Students will visualize addition and subtraction through the use of the ten frames and number bond dry erase materials.
With these new materials my students will have an opportunity to engage in hands-on-learning and the resources required so that they can independently practice what they have been taught.
I have selected several products that will help my students practice addition and subtraction problems in an environment that they will actively participate in and enjoy. I will use the materials to introduce, to practice and to remediate mathematical concepts. Students will engage in game play through the Snap & Slide Number Bond Activity and the Pop & Add to 20. Students will use the math stamp set to create their own problems. The possibilities will be endless! I know that I will enthusiastically hear "What time is Math?" once these new materials arrive in the classroom.
