My Students

Meet Room 2 in West Springfield MA! This is a specialized pre-k classroom for students on the autism spectrum where the teaching methodology utilized in this program is Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). ABA is a scientific and systematic approach to teaching students who require high rates of repetition in order to make progress.

Each and every one of my students is AMAZING!

They come to school excited for their day of learning and playing with new friends and toys! There are currently 10 students in the classroom, however, more students will join as the school year progresses when they turn 3.

Many of the students are considered nonverbal and there are students who come from homes where English is the second language. Learning to comprehend directions and communicate effectively is a major priority. Having an array of fun books, games and toys of interest is a wonderful and meaningful way to motivate and facilitate communication. I look forward to coming to work everyday and am proud of the growth in all of my students.

My Project

The items that I am requesting for this project were carefully picked to build language, increase motivation, as well as independence. As an added bonus, many of the items also work on fine motor skills as well. The palm grasp crayons are perfect for my youngest students and can help them to enjoy coloring with their peers. The glitter will be utilized to make homemade sensory bottles.

All of the language cards will be used on a daily basis to help the children learn to identify everyday items both receptively and expressively.

Picture cards are a MUST have resource for students on the autism spectrum as these students tend to be highly visual learners.

The toys and games that I am requesting will be wonderful activities to motivate the children while working on skills such as taking turns, sharing, and waiting. These can be difficult skills to learn and I am excited for the opportunity to have the resources to help teach the skills in a fun play-based way!
