My Students

My students come to school every day with a smile on their

faces wanting to learn and ready for a new adventure.

My fourth graders are eager to share stories about their families, their lives, and their dreams. I hope for my students to be ready with knowledge and with curiosity and interest in what the future holds for them. I want them to believe that they can change their future.

My students are from different parts of the area, but they are primarily from under-served communities that are traditionally limited in their access to great educational experiences. They are primarily Latino and speak a variety of home languages such as Mam, Quiche, Spanish, and English. Many of them are economically disenfranchised. Ninety percent of the students at my school receive free lunch.

Their reality has not stopped them from striving to better themselves. They aspire to go to college, to learn, and to contribute back to their community. They dream of being lawyers, doctors, teachers, scientists, and soccer players. They want to be that positive change that their community needs.

My Project

Math and Science are two subjects that need their own notebooks. The best notebooks for them are graph notebooks. Students need help with the alignment of digits for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. In science, the graph paper notebooks make it easier for students to draw graphs and tables for data collection.

Graph notebooks are an important mathematical tool that allows students to organize their work.

Alignment of digits, drawing models, geometry and plotting points are all made easier with graph notebooks. Students save time in not needing to get a ruler, and their work looks cleaner and readable.
