I work at a school where 61% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My class is an integrated prekindergarten room, which consists of students aged three to five years old. The class consists of 30% students who have Individualized Education Plans. The students are learning through investigation, exploration, and building their curiosity through a science-based curriculum every day. Their success is vibrant through their dedication, perseverance, and above all their smiles through the numerous unit-learning projects we have completed. Some ending projects include creating a “save the millipedes” video that was broadcast on our daily news to the whole school, to working with Scholastic Books to publish a book about “Building Around the World.” My ultimate goal is to build every student's love for learning, and to keep enriching my students’ lives to help assist them in building the best educational foundation I can.
My Project
My prekindergarten students are curious and ready to learn. The students are in love with our dramatic play area, but they are in need of more diverse materials to help them build a fundamental foundation for learning about numbers, counting, and money. They need access to a cash register, dramatic play materials, and food, and books to learn about numbers and money through hands-on exploration.
The students will love to practice buying and selling groceries while building their fundamental mathematic skills.
The students are eager and curious to learn about the world around them. Through the dramatic play area, students get to take on other community helper roles while fostering developing the whole child. Using the Learning Resources Pretend & Play Calculator Cash Register, 73 Pieces, play food like the Melissa & Doug Wooden Scoop and Serve Ice Cream Counter (28 pcs) - Play Food and Accessories, and dress-up materials, students can get the opportunity to engage in role playing all while learning vital skills to be successful for the rest of their lives.
