My kindergarten students are a loud and active bunch. We spend much of our day playing, singing, and moving our bodies. I am learning how to cover math and reading standards using hands-on methods that really help kids "get" what is being taught.
We are learning to read, write, manage conflict, and appreciate the math and science that surrounds us everywhere we go.
In addition to the basics of kindergarten learning, we also spend much of our time learning outside in our outdoor classroom and learning what it means to be a good friend. We plant flowers in the fall, shovel sidewalks in the winter, and pick up trash in the neighborhood in the spring.
Kindergarten is a joy, and I am thankful for this site for helping us obtain materials to keep our learning headed in the right direction.
My Project
Our kindergarten math curriculum supplies books and worksheets to teach about money, but what 5 & 6 year olds really need are realistic experiences and hands-on materials to learn financial literacy concepts.
I would like to purchase plastic money, trays for sorting coins, menus and price lists for kids to play store, and write & wipe books so my students can learn to identify and use money.
In addition, I am asking for laminating sheets so that I can pull resources from the internet that build upon my students' interests (for example starting a classroom economy where children earn & spend money).
These supplies would brighten our math learning and give students the opportunity to practice saving, spending, and collecting money. A solid base understanding of money would set my kindergartners up for success in grades 1-12 (and beyond!).
