My Students
First graders are energetic, full of spunk, and enthusiastic. They love to learn. They love their teachers. And they love new experiences. The first grade students at my school perfectly fit these descriptors.
The early years of school are when students' opinions about education are formed.
I work hard to help my students develop positive feelings about school. I want my students to see themselves as hard workers and life-long learners. I want them to realize that, through hard work, they can accomplish anything.
My Project
I recently attended the LearnIT conference at Northern Illinois University. One of the sessions featured LEGO WeDo 2.0 robotics kits, and I was immediately hooked! My mind was racing as I thought of all the ways I can incorporate these kits into my classroom. I was so excited when I experienced success with my building, and I know my students will feel that same sense of accomplishment. We need LEGO WeDo 2.0 robotics kits for more hands on learning opportunities in engineering, technology, and problem solving.
This type of work will allow students to explore engineering, technology, and problem solving, as well as working cooperatively with peers.
In today's classroom, with so much to accomplish, it is difficult to find time to address all academic areas. Activities such as this, that incorporate multiple skill sets, ensure students are able to grow in all academic areas- while having fun and using LEGOs!
