I need innovative strategies to connect my school with families and the community as well as ways to improve parent engagement to meet the increasing academic demands on our young children.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students struggle daily to overcome their violent and impoverished circumstances. The obstacles they face are considerable, but they don't compare to my students' resilience. Despite these obstacles, they amaze me every day with their joy, enthusiasm, and love. They live in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago, yet their joy and desire to learn are prevalent in everything they do. Their strength and courage never cease to amaze me and is an inspiration.
My students are survivors!
I know my students will triumph over their disadvantages as long as they continue to receive the help and support they so desperately need. Our school is located nearby a homeless shelter where roughly 45% of our students reside. We must stand united in providing each student with the same opportunities that every child is entitled to receive! Therefore, we are educators but we are also fighters in providing educational experiences that are innovative and enjoyable.
I aspire to learn concrete, actionable strategies for partnering with families and community organizations to foster meaningful educational experiences for students. I hope to develop a comprehensive set of tools for engaging and empowering all students’ parents to become active partners in their child’s school success.
We Must Stand As ONE!
I want to seek out, connect with, and facilitate effective partnerships with the broader community. From the knowledge I will gain from this course, I hope to establish a program to involve my school's community in helping to foster all students’ achievement. I also want to develop a schoolwide action plan to foster parental involvement to maintain regular contact with parents, to combat bullying, and create a strong home-to-school connection.
Please support me in my quest to become more knowledgeable about developing a variety of successful family and community partnerships with my school.
