Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Camden, NJ has been ranked as America's most dangerous city. The majority of the students in my class receive free or reduced-priced lunch. Despite the challenges my students face living in this environment, they come to school eager to learn and grow. For many students, school is their safe place, and I want to create the best environment possible for them to feel safe, secure, and cared for. They are the future of this city and have the potential to improve their community.
My Project
We have an open area we would like to turn into a courtyard for the children to ride bikes, jump rope, draw with chalk, throw balls, and grow plants.
We need tricycles for the children to develop their gross motor skills in a safe environment.
Living in an urban area many of these children lack a safe area to practice riding or lack the access to the equipment. Without these opportunities they are unable to master this skill.
We need a lockable storage shed to store the bikes to keep them safe and out of the elements along with other gross motor equipment.
