Help me give my students a classroom set of Lego blocks, complete with building plates and two sets of characters to enhance our story writing experiences.
"What we learn with pleasure we never forget." Alfred Mercier
I consider myself lucky to teach a group of 37, personable, creative and motivated 3rd graders.
Our school is a Kindergarten through 5th grade elementary school. Of our student population, approximately 60% of them receive free or reduced lunch. I believe that one of the things that makes our school "stand out in the crowd" is the fabulous parental and community support that we receive. Great kids, great parents, great staff!
My Project
My third graders love to use their imagination and have terrific stories to tell, but they often struggle with getting those ideas onto paper. But I know what you are thinking: how will Lego blocks help to unleash their creative juices and bring those stories to life?
It is believed that we learn by doing, that our brains are wired through our hands on interactions.
It is my hope that by incorporating a large classroom set of Lego blocks and accessories (plates and characters) my students will be able to, literally, build a story. Students will be given a set of story element task cards to use as the catalyst for their Lego creations; the completed Lego story backdrop will then be used as the starting inspiration point for their creative narratives - stories born of their imagination and creation.
