Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As teachers of students with disabilities in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with meaningful learning experiences.
One thing they all share is a love for learning.
My students deserve the very best materials and resources that are out there, and often due to school and home budget issues, they do not receive them.
My Project
The items that I have requested include markers, Tricorn hats, Mop hats and aprons for the students in my class. We are currently studying Colonial Times and I want to truly immerse my students in the learning process
How better for students to learn about Colonial Life than to live it?
Since we don't have a time machine I am trying to create the most real experience possible. Students can don their hats and wear their aprons while we feast on typical Colonial fare. They can learn about the customs and strict societal mores that children experienced at that time.
I expect my students to become more excited about the activities I have planned and I hope that I will be able to board that Time Machine with my students and transport them back to the 13 Colonies. We will meet Betsy Ross a seamstress and we are going to use the markers to have the children design their square and combine them to make a quilt.
