My students are dreamers, problem solvers, and likely the most creative little people you will ever meet.
They are a happy group of first graders who love school and love to learn.
One hundred percent of our school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch, yet they don't let hardships stand in their way. My students' economic situations are just as varied as are their family dynamics. We have military families with a local National Guard unit in our area and an Air Force base close by. We aim to take good care of our military families. Our district includes an Indian Reservation and we have a high population of Hispanic students, many of whom have family members who work in the agricultural industry. It is so rewarding to teach, whether I am helping a gifted student learn, one coping with ADHD learn, or anything in between. I feel like I have the best job ever!
My Project
I want my students to remember my lessons years from now, so I need to teach them in a way they won't forget. After attending two weeks of awesome conferences this summer, I have big plans to amp up my lessons in both reading and math. I would like to incorporate Glow Games several times throughout the school year. I have already dabbled in this to celebrate the 100th day of school. I would like to add to that this year. Materials in this project will allow the children to play Glow Math Fact Spoons using the glow spoons, Vocabulary Glow Jenga just by adding vocabulary words to the Jenga blocks, Math Tic Tac Glow using the glow sticks, and Glow Blasters with the ping pong balls where they get to earn ping pong balls with correct answers in both math and reading and launch them with a glow balloon stretched over a cup.
Our school is set up with a house system.
Children earn points for their house based on attendance, behavior, academic improvement, and respect. Several times a year we have Talent Tuesdays where students celebrate their house. I would like to focus on STEM activities this year doing several different LEGO challenges like building LEGO glasses that represent characteristics of each child, creating LEGO mazes for teams to use, and creating the tallest look out towers for Toy Story figurines using clothes pins and craft sticks.
With your help I can do a myriad of activities. I believe that every child should be the top at some thing. That thing is different for each child. There are so many activities we can do throughout the school year to help each child shine. I'm super excited about them and invite you to help me make it happen!
