Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyday, my students start off in our gathering circle. After they take care of "housekeeping," we come together to discuss what we will be learning about today. They can't wait to start the learning fun. Our motto is: Listen, Think, and Try!
My students come from a variety of backgrounds.
They range from students who are learning the English language (ELL/ESL students) to ones who are special education students and everyone in between. The school is a very supportive school and we try to meet the needs of all our students.
My Project
I would like to do a “Glow Day for K” transformation in my classroom. I would transform the classroom so that the students would have a memorable experience where they practice the skills they have learning in our Reading and Math blocks. The classroom will be lit up with black lights and materials for the learning groups will be lit up since they will be neon/white.
The activities would include:
Sight word practice with glow sticks
Search for your sight words highlighted around the room
Sight word practice while playing Jenga and reading the words on the pieces
Solve math problems and practice counting
The black lights are an investment since they can be used with other transformations like a Spy themed or Crime Investigation theme. The activities and content could be adjusted and the learning will be memorable and fun for my littles.
