At every grade level, we do different clay projects, from coil pots to architectural structures. 3rd graders make pinch pots and kindergarten artists make clay butterflies. And by 5th grade, it's student choice projects. Having missed out on clay projects during covid distancing protocols, I'm making sure that every student makes a clay project this year.
Kinesthetic learning (learning by doing) is important in the arts.
It is a way for students to explore personal expression, critical thinking, and problem-solving, as well as pride in their completed work. Having students glaze their projects is a great way to create an enduring artifact of their learning.
