Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with learning disabled students at a Title I school where 85% or more of the students receive free or reduced lunch. All of them have reading and writing disabilities.
The students have difficulty with accurate or fluent word recognition and poor decoding skills.
The students will be helped by having the same chance as the general education students at having the materials available to them also. The school has enough books for the general education classes but not enough for my special education students.
My Project
The 6th graders will be reading Walk Two Moons during the first quarter. We don't have enough copies at our school for all the students and what we do have is a lot of them that are falling apart. I would like my students to have nice looking books to read and not have to share. The 5th graders will be reading about Jackie Robinson in the 4th quarter. I would also like them all to have their own nice looking copy to read from and enjoy. The other books I would like the 5th and 6th graders all to have, so they can silently read from them. They need a few choices so that they can pick what looks interesting to them.
