Let's give every child the opportunity to be heard!
Help me give my students the opportunity to have their voices heard! By using iPads with communication software I will be able to assess and find the right form of communication for each student.
I am a Speech Language Pathologist working with non-verbal to minimally verbal children on the Autism Spectrum as well as multiply handicapped within the New York City Department of Education. I am lucky to work with staff and administration that pushes for "Kids First".
Many of my students have a voice that cannot be heard and I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to be with them each and everyday to help them find their voice.
They each have strong desires to communicate and are determined to do so in any way possible. Despite their obstacles, they are the most fun loving, happy, eager and special children.
My Project
Communication is key. My students have to work a little extra to make sure they are heard and understood. Being able to give them that opportunity by using voice output devices and communication apps makes all the difference in the world.
Every child has a voice that needs to be heard.
Everyone needs to be able to communicate in some way to express their feelings, thought and just everyday needs. Being able to greet peers and adults and engaging in a small conversation. Being able to actively participate in all lessons.
By being able to assess and give the students the options available to them to see what is the best fit for them is priceless. Being able to give a non-verbal child the voice they have and be heard is everything!
