"Are you going to be a pioneer or a settler?" is a question that was asked by our new elementary principal who has since moved on to be our school superintendent. That comment was in response to being introduced to Project Based Learning. As a class, we are trying to not be settlers.
My third-grade students are motivated to learn new things by using technology and various manipulatives in and outside of the classroom.
Our school is a PreK-12 grade school in four buildings. The population is around 400 students. The student population at our school is not very diverse, but students of different ethnicities are gladly accepted and strong friendships are developed. One of our goals as a school is to empower our students to become problem solvers using creative and critical thinking 21st Century Skills.
My Project
These books will be very beneficial in my classroom library. I have strived to continue to update and diversify the choices available for my students. When trying to help students find books of interest, it is vital that there are many different types, genres, interests, and levels available for them to choose from.
These books, including some with cds, will be of great benefit to my students.
No classroom is without varied levels of learning. Those who struggle with reading fluently on their own will benefit greatly from listening to and reading along with great books. I have also included some number books so students can continue to see, as stated almost daily in my classroom, how reading is a part of ALL subject areas, including math!
These books will be used this year and for many years to come by many students. Having a variety of books increases the chances of every student finding something of interest. New books = new choices = new learning = more confidence = strong future leaders!
