My students need " Multicultural Rhythm Stick Fun CD" and all these multicultural books to explore the diversity of children like themselves and how they live from around the world.
Our students are very curious about the world around them. They love working with technology, reading and especially learning history! They are happy little sponges, eager to come to school and learn every day.
My students are a delightful, diverse group of kindergarten, first and second graders.
They love helping each other explore, sharing and discussing their findings and thinking. They help teach each other and everyone gets their voices heard. A whole new experience of learning awaits them this year.
My Project
We are in need of multicultural books to add to our classroom library. With "This Child, Every Child: A Book About the World's Children" and "A Life Like Mine How children live around the world" we will open our minds on how diverse and beautiful our world really is.
We (3 teachers) are looking at our history curriculum and improving it with an equity lens to be more culturally relevant in todays diverse world.
Our students will read the leveled books during small groups. They will become an "expert" and share with their peers. This will give them a view of other cultures from different parts around the world and learn what makes us different, from the color of our skin and hair, to how we get water. We will use these titles show how different children live in different countries. These books will be available to read as a whole group and for students to use as a reference as we study specific cultures around the world. This gives our students a better understanding of the world around them. They will learn enough to be able to write a short informational piece comparing how people live here to how they live in another country in a different part of the world (Asia, Africa or South America).
All this and more with learning through music by listening, singing and learning rhythms with some rhythm stick fun.
