Ms. Harley from Philadelphia PA is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need experience with interacting with data. The Texas Instruments Nspire handhelds would allow my students to create their own data sets and explore many more learning opportunities.

We are the Upper School of a neighborhood elementary school in Philadelphia. Many students have been at our school since kindergarten; others come in as new students when they enter 6th grade. Our student body is made up of over 70% economically disadvantaged students.
Our students are curious self-starters.
Our students are also creative and driven. They take ownership of their learning. They are interested in seeing how and why things work and making meaningful connections to the real world. The students enjoy coming to school and are engaged in different classes throughout the day.
We want to have some Texas Instruments Nspire handhelds for use in Science. These handhelds are like calculators for the future! Each handheld is on a dedicated mini-wifi network in class. Teachers can send documents and assignments to the handhelds. Students can manipulate the documents, investigate, demonstrate what they learn- then send the document back to the teacher!
These Nspire handhelds would increase the meaningful use technology in our learning community!
Students will be able to use the handhelds to conduct investigations and interact authentically with data. Students will be able to work collaboratively on assignments and share their findings with their classmates.
These handhelds can also be used with various probes to further increase student engagement in their investigations. Students will be able to make better connections to their learning through the use of the handhelds.
