My students need two Chromebooks and a listening center.

Children need to be actively engaged in learning all through the day. While I am facilitating small reading or math groups, the other students are busy practicing and extending skills in independent learning stations. Learning stations encourage students to become independent and problem solvers.
Teaching Kindergarten is not for the faint of heart.
This is the most challenging yet rewarding job ever. I get to spend my days with 21 wonderful students. They are curious, active, excited, determined, and loving. They each have their own unique personalities and experiences that they are bringing to the table. We are all learning from one another. From the first moment they enter my room, they know that they are all loved and respected by everyone. We learn to value and respect each other and our previous experiences. We create an environment that is safe for us to spread our wings and start to fly. With this environment, I am able to push my students farther and farther and allowing them to "become the best you that you can be". I am teaching at a Charter School that is opening their doors for the second year. Starting a school from scratch is difficult. Thankfully, I have been blessed to work with a staff, parents and students that are more like family than coworkers.
As I am sitting at my small group table, working with a group of 5 students, I look out into my room. I see 18 students actively engaged in some type of learning activity. I have stations for both math a literacy set up around my room. These stations are set up to be completely independent. After weeks of modeling and practicing, my students are ready to work in their stations without me. That is such a wonderful feeling! This allows me the opportunity to pull my small groups and push my students as far as I can.Having Chromebooks in my classroom will allow the students ample experience with navigating and using this technology. It will also let me customize their learning by putting them on specific websites based on their needs. A listening station will allow my students to listen to their favorite stories as well as introduce them to some new ones. They will not only listen to the stories, but practice retelling and comprehension skills as well.
Having these items in my classroom, will help my students become more independent with their learning.
They will learn how to navigate technology as well as how to have discussions about stories. It will teach them to listen and value each others contributions. Adding these two stations into my rotation will help keep the groups small and the noise level to a minimum. This will allow me to maximize my time while facilitating small groups.
