My students need the requested books such as Oskar and the 8 Blessings, If Your Monster Won't Go to Bed, Pumpkin Soup and many more to improve their literacy.
Our school follows the International Baccalaureate program. It encourages inquiry with hands-on experiences. My 1st grade students are a highly energetic, inquisitive group who love to ask questions and make connections to their world. We are an elementary school of 900+ students. As you can imagine with a school of this size, our little ones often get overlooked for resources! Our school lacks the technology resources that would really improve the students' learning experience. Our teachers are committed to providing our students with every learning opportunity possible.
My Project
These books I am requesting-Penguins in Peril, The Animals’ Santa and many others, go along with a wonderful literacy unit I discovered called Rooted in Reading. It chooses a read aloud each week of the year to focus on, and includes wonderful lesson plans to integrate literacy skills, writing, reading, vocabulary, spelling, art activities, and much more. All of the activities are based around the book of the week. My class has tested this out using books from the local library and they love it. It would be so nice to own the books and have them in my classroom library to use year after year. These lessons I'm trying to implement are fun, creative, engaging plans, that meet all our state standards and prepare my class for standardized testing. It is a great addition to our classroom since we do not have a traditional reading series.
This would be an amazing addition to teaching the reading program we have.
I feel it will greatly enhance my students' learning.
